Everyone goes to the big cities like San Francisco, New York or Chicago and there’s so much to see in a big urban setting, it can be overwhelming. Sometimes, if you go to the little places just outside the big city, it’s a quieter, more relaxing experience. Opting for small towns over cities is a fairly new trend called “townsizing,” and it’s a fun way to plan a summer vacation this season.
My husband and I visited a small town in California called Winters, where we stayed at the charming Hotel Winters. We liked it so much that we became investors in the hotel! In Winters, you can walk down the street and they have small, boutique wine tasting rooms and restaurants. You could meet really amazing, interesting people just walking around and visiting the local coffee shops. And you never know … you might like the town so much, you decide to invest in a second home or vacation property there so you can visit whenever you’d like.
The friendly vibe of Winters, California is similar to so many small towns outside of big cities. Hudson Valley is another example of a fantastic place to visit, located a little more than an hour outside of New York City, depending on traffic of course!
One idea might be to “townsize” your summer vacation by spending time in the big city then relaxing in the suburbs or small towns nearby! If you try this trend, let me know! I’d love to hear about your townsizing experiences and what small towns you chose to explore.
