Happy August! It’s been a fairly moderate summer in Los Angeles but the hotter weather could arrive this month, so today’s newsletter is dedicated to ways you can escape the heat. My favorite? Travel! Here are some travel tips if you’re booking a trip in August, which is peak vacation season as people take time off work and kids are still out of school …
Check out discounted airline sites to plan your getaway! Kayak.com and Google.com/flights are two fantastic places to search online for discounted airfare rates. It’s worth checking out the last minute deals, especially if you have no set place you have to be. Why not plan a creative little adventure?
Visit somewhere you’ve never been before. Trips to your vacation mainstays are always going to deliver on predictable fun but if you’re looking for something new, try a destination you’ve never visited before. I had never been to Winters, California when I stayed at Hotel Winters and loved it so much, I decided to become an investor in the hotel!
Dress for the part, get an update (maybe!) Flight attendants recently shared with Travel + Leisure the outfits that are more likely to get you upgraded on a flight. Scroll below for that story and dress accordingly! 😂
Travel light. You can always buy something on the road, but my philosophy is that it’s best not to bring too much luggage.
Look around for decor inspiration. Often when you travel, you can find incredible inspiration for your own house, whether you’re planning to prepare it for sale or decorating your new home. When you travel anywhere in the world and go into public spaces and hotels, you really get a sense of what some of the design trends are right now and how they might work in your spaces.
You don’t have to stay in a hotel to create your own adventure at any price point. You can go across the world … or across town and still get inspired! Have a drink or a meal at a fancy hotel in your own city and experience what it would be like to stay there without spending anything on a room. You don’t even have to order food. Sit at the bar, get some water, and take in the high life on a budget! Sometimes the best travel experience happens right in your own backyard.
Wherever you choose to go this month, here’s to safe travels and a month filled with adventures!
