I’ve been in the real estate business a long time and some of my wonderful clients have since become seniors. We’ve guided them through many houses and now, we guide them through their right-sizing or next steps.
I love my senior clients and helping people in the senior space, whether they’re selling houses, moving to luxury condos or smaller houses, moving out of town or in some cases, moving to an assisted living community. There is a wagon wheel of options for seniors taking the next step in their real estate story, and we are always here to guide them through closing a chapter to start a new one.
For senior clients, selling a property sometimes requires home organization, donating personal items or hosting estate sales, and we have a full roster of services that benefit them during the home-selling process. If they need it, these services can also include financial advisors and tax professionals who can help senior clients craft the most advantageous real estate plan for their needs and goals.
In fact, a client recently came to us about selling a house, which would’ve been listed for several million dollars. Right away, because of my past experience, I knew selling was not the right decision but referred them to an account and real estate attorney to confirm. As I suspected, if they sold the house they would have hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax liability due to capital gains as they have owned the house for 50 years. The client was shocked! They were so grateful we helped facilitate this decision as their real estate agent, and even guaranteed we would be able to sell the house when the time is right.
If senior clients need direction, we’re happy to provide it, even when it’s not “good” for us or means we don’t get the home sale. I believe that in business, what’s good for us is always one and the same with whatever is best for our client. My philosophy, which has been my guiding principle for more than 30 years, is not to create clients for right now but to create clients for life!
